Like To Find: Your Questions Answered

August 27, 202614 min read

This is a simple guide to how Like To Find works, why we've designed it this way, and how we're trying to make meeting people a little more human.

Like To Find is a different kind of dating community.

It was created alongside Solo Connects' real-life events to give genuine single people more opportunities to connect, whether they come along to an event, can't make it to one, or simply want another way to meet people between events.

We don't believe dating needs to be complicated, performative or full of endless swiping. We want people to be able to see who is around, get a sense of who they are, and make a respectful first move when they find someone they'd like to know.

We've also deliberately built some boundaries into Like To Find. Some of these might be different from what you're used to on other dating apps, so we've explained the thinking behind them below.

Getting Started

What is Like To Find?

Like To Find is an online community for genuine single people, designed to work alongside our real-life Solo Connects events.

You can use it to:

  • Discover other single people in your area

  • Read people's profiles

  • Find people who share your interests

  • See new members joining the community

  • Send and receive Flirt Cards

  • Join the After Party after an event

  • Get help creating a profile that actually sounds like you

It's designed around people rather than profiles. We want to give you more opportunities to make a connection without expecting you to spend hours swiping through hundreds of carefully curated photographs.

Guests and Members

What's the difference between a Guest and a Member?

Guests can explore Like To Find and get a feel for the community, while Members have access to the full range of features.

We've deliberately made it possible for Guests to see the community before deciding whether membership is right for them.

Guests can browse available profiles and see what sort of people are using Like To Find, but some features are reserved for Members, including sending Flirt Cards.

It's a simple idea: we'd rather you see the value of Like To Find than ask you to pay before you've seen what is here.

Can Guests see Members?

Yes.

Guests can browse Member profiles where they are permitted to do so.

Some information is intentionally limited for Guests, such as a Member's first name. You'll still be able to see useful information such as their age, location and profile.

If you find someone you'd like to contact, you'll need to become a Member to send them a Flirt Card.

Why can't Guests see someone's first name?

This is part of the balance between letting Guests see the value of the community while protecting the privacy of our Members.

Guests can get a genuine feel for the people using Like To Find without having unrestricted access to identifying information.

Once you become a Member, you'll have access to the additional information and functionality that comes with membership.

Profiles

What makes a good Like To Find profile?

We don't think a good dating profile needs to sound like a dating advert.

The best profiles are:

  • Clear

  • Specific

  • Honest

  • Positive

  • Personal

  • Concise

  • Written in a way that sounds like the person who actually wrote it

You don't need to appeal to everyone. In fact, you shouldn't try to.

A good profile should give the right people something to connect with, rather than trying to make everyone like you.

Can I write my own profile?

Absolutely.

You can write your profile yourself, exactly as you want it.

You can also use Cupid to help you think about what you want to say.

Why can I only have one photograph?

We've intentionally designed Like To Find around one photograph per profile.

We don't want people feeling that they need to create a carefully curated collection of photographs to compete for attention.

Your profile is about more than your photographs.

We also ask members of the community to respect this. Please don't ask someone for additional photographs.

They may have deliberately chosen to have one photograph, and asking for more can make someone uncomfortable or cause offence.

Cupid

What is Cupid?

Cupid is our AI-powered profile coach.

Cupid isn't there to write a load of flowery nonsense about how much you love walks on the beach, meaningful conversations and making memories.

In fact, we're deliberately trying to avoid exactly that.

Cupid helps you think about:

  • Who you are

  • What matters to you

  • What you're like to spend time with

  • What you're looking for

  • What you're not looking for

  • The sort of person you're hoping to meet

Cupid may challenge vague answers and ask you to be more specific.

The aim isn't to make you sound like an AI.

The aim is to help you sound more like yourself.

Does Cupid write my profile for me?

You have a choice.

You can write your profile yourself, or you can use Cupid for some help.

Cupid might help you find the words, challenge you to think about something you've missed, or suggest a clearer way of saying something.

You remain in control of your profile.

Why does Cupid ask questions?

Because "I like having fun and spending time with friends" doesn't tell someone very much.

Cupid is designed to help you get beyond the obvious answers.

You don't have to answer every question, and you can skip something if you don't want to discuss it.

The goal is specific rather than complicated.

Flirt Cards

What is a Flirt Card?

A Flirt Card is a simple, respectful way of letting someone know:

I'd like to get to know you.

It's designed to make the first move a little easier.

Rather than having to approach someone directly, you can send them a Flirt Card with a short message explaining why you'd like to connect.

It's a nudge, not a marriage proposal.

Why do you call them Flirt Cards?

Because "I'd like to get to know you" doesn't need to feel like a formal introduction.

A Flirt Card is simply a friendly way to open the door to a potential connection.

The recipient can decide whether they'd like to open that door.

Why do I need to write a proper message?

First impressions count.

A Flirt Card needs to contain at least 10 characters in the message.

A simple:

"Hi"

isn't enough to send a Flirt Card.

This isn't designed to make things difficult. It's there to encourage people to actually say something.

It could be as simple as:

"I noticed we both love live music."

That's much more useful than "hey".

Can I send more than one Flirt Card to someone?

Not immediately.

If someone hasn't responded to your Flirt Card, or has declined it, you need to wait 30 days before sending another one.

This is intentional.

If someone hasn't responded or has said no, repeatedly sending messages isn't respectful.

A little space is a good thing.

What happens if someone declines my Flirt Card?

They can choose to send a polite decline using the standard Like To Find response, or they can write their own polite response.

The idea is to make it possible to say:

"Thanks, but I don't think we're the right match."

without anyone having to feel awkward.

A decline isn't a criticism of you. It simply means the other person doesn't want to take the connection further.

Why can't I send someone a Flirt Card?

There are several possible reasons.

For example:

  • You're a Guest rather than a Member

  • You've already sent that person a Flirt Card recently

  • They've previously declined one and the 30-day period hasn't passed

  • The person has chosen an age preference that doesn't allow you to send them a Flirt Card

  • Another existing Like To Find restriction applies

If someone's age preference prevents you from sending a Flirt Card, you can still view their profile. The restriction applies to contacting them, not discovering them.

Age and Privacy

Why do I have to enter my age?

Age can be an important part of dating compatibility.

We use your age to help with things such as:

  • Age preferences

  • Discovery

  • After Party eligibility

  • Flirt Card preferences

  • Safeguarding the community

Why don't you ask for my date of birth?

We've deliberately chosen not to collect your full date of birth.

You tell us your current age rather than giving us your exact birth date.

This means we can provide useful age-related functionality without collecting more personal information than we need.

Why can't I simply change my age?

We've put safeguards around age because we don't want people changing their age simply to gain access to areas or people that aren't appropriate for them.

For example, someone shouldn't be able to change their age from 52 to 25 just to gain access to a younger After Party.

If you've made a genuine mistake, or your age needs correcting, you can ask the Like To Find team to change it.

What happens when I have a birthday?

Because we don't collect your date of birth, we don't automatically know when your birthday is.

You can use the available age update option when appropriate to increase your age by one year.

You can't simply change it to any age you choose.

This is another safeguard designed to keep the information reliable.

Who I'd Like To Find

Can I tell Like To Find what age of person I'd like to date?

Yes.

You can specify a minimum and maximum age for the people you'd ideally like to date.

This is a private preference.

It helps Like To Find understand what you're looking for, but it doesn't mean that everyone outside your chosen range disappears from the app.

Why can I still see someone outside my preferred age range?

Because discovery and compatibility aren't the same thing.

We don't want to hide people from you simply because they fall outside a preference.

You might see someone who isn't within your chosen age range and decide that actually, you'd like to know more about them.

Your preferences help us understand what you're looking for. They aren't designed to put you in a tiny box.

Who Can Send Me Flirt Cards?

Can I choose what age people I receive Flirt Cards from?

Yes.

You can choose one of three options:

I only want to receive Flirt Cards from people within my age criteria.

I am happy to receive Flirt Cards from people up to five years outside of my age criteria.

I am happy to receive Flirt Cards from people no matter what age they are.

This is separate from the age range of people you'd ideally like to date.

What's the difference between my dating age range and my Flirt Card age preference?

Your dating age range tells Like To Find who you'd ideally like to date.

Your Flirt Card age preference controls who you're comfortable receiving a Flirt Card from.

You might, for example, prefer to date people aged 40–50 but be happy to hear from people a little outside that range.

Or you might want to receive Flirt Cards only from people within your chosen dating age range.

You are in control of that choice.

Location and Distance

Can I tell Like To Find how far I'm prepared to travel?

Yes.

You can tell us how far you're comfortable travelling to meet someone.

This helps us understand your preferences and can be useful when considering compatibility.

We've deliberately avoided making distance an absolute barrier to discovery.

Someone who is 31 miles away shouldn't necessarily disappear because you've selected 30 miles.

You may decide they're worth the extra journey.

Why do you ask where I live?

Location helps people understand whether meeting someone is realistically possible.

We use your town rather than publishing precise location information.

We don't need to tell another user your address.

Last Online

What does "Last Online" mean?

Last Online is intended to show when someone last used Like To Find.

We show the date rather than the exact time.

This can be useful when deciding whether someone is likely to have seen a Flirt Card or whether they have simply not been using the app recently.

After Party

What is an After Party?

The After Party is the online extension of a Solo Connects event.

It gives people who attended an event another opportunity to see who else was there and continue making connections after the event has finished.

It's particularly useful if you spotted someone at an event but didn't get the chance to speak to them.

Who can I see in an After Party?

You'll see people who actually joined that particular event's After Party.

You may also see Like To Find Members who didn't attend the event but are allowed to browse that After Party.

We've deliberately separated these into two sections:

Event Attendees

People who actually joined that event's After Party.

Like To Find Members

Like To Find Members who are eligible to browse the After Party but didn't attend that particular event.

This distinction is important. Being able to look at an After Party doesn't mean someone attended the event.

Why can Members see an After Party they didn't attend?

Because the After Party is also part of the wider Like To Find community.

Members can browse relevant After Parties and see who is around, even if they couldn't make the event.

It gives Members more opportunities to discover people and is one of the benefits of being part of the wider community.

Guests can access the relevant After Party through their event-specific link or QR code.

Respect and Safety

What are the expectations within Like To Find?

We're trying to create a community where people can be open about who they are and what they're looking for without feeling pressured.

That means:

  • Be polite.

  • Respect a no.

  • Respect someone's boundaries.

  • Don't repeatedly contact someone who hasn't responded.

  • Don't ask people for additional photographs.

  • Respect someone's preference about communicating by phone or email.

  • Don't make assumptions about someone because they don't fit your usual "type".

  • If you're unsure, be respectful.

What if someone tells me they'd rather talk by phone or email?

Please respect their preference.

If somebody has specifically said they'd rather communicate by phone or email, that's their choice.

Don't pressure them into using another method.

Why do you encourage people to meet in person?

Because we're ultimately interested in real connections between real people.

The app is a tool to help you discover people. It isn't intended to replace actually meeting them.

If you'd like somewhere comfortable to meet someone you've connected with, Solo Connects events are an obvious place to do that.

What if I don't feel comfortable meeting someone alone?

Take your time.

You don't owe anyone a meeting simply because you've connected online.

Solo Connects events can provide a more comfortable environment because you're meeting within a wider group of people rather than arranging a first meeting completely on your own.

What if someone behaves inappropriately?

You can use the reporting and blocking features available within Like To Find.

Please don't feel that you have to tolerate behaviour that makes you uncomfortable.

We want Like To Find to be a community where people can make connections without feeling pressured, harassed or uncomfortable.

Why We've Built Like To Find This Way

Why isn't Like To Find just another dating app?

Because we don't want it to be.

We're interested in what happens between people, not just what happens on a screen.

Like To Find was created to complement Solo Connects' real-life events and to give genuine single people more ways to connect.

You might:

  • Meet someone at an event.

  • Discover someone online.

  • See someone in an After Party.

  • Notice that you share an interest.

  • Send a Flirt Card.

  • Decide you'd rather meet someone in person.

  • Make a new friendship rather than a romantic connection.

Not every connection needs to become a relationship.

Sometimes you just meet someone interesting.

And that's OK.

Why are there so many boundaries built into the app?

Because we don't think giving people more freedom to do anything to anyone necessarily creates a better dating experience.

Some of our rules are there to protect privacy.

Some are there to prevent unwanted contact.

Some are there to encourage people to make a proper first impression.

Some are there for safeguarding.

And some are simply there because we think being considerate of other people matters.

We're trying to create an environment where people can be curious without being intrusive, interested without being pushy, and honest without being unkind.

Find Your People

Like To Find isn't about trying to make everyone like you.

It's about giving you more opportunities to find your people.

You don't have to appeal to everyone.

You don't have to respond to everyone.

You don't have to send a Flirt Card to everyone you find attractive.

And nobody owes you a response.

What we hope Like To Find does is make it a little easier for two people who might genuinely get on to find each other.

Be yourself. Be specific. Be respectful. And see what happens.
